Koh Chang, Thailand

| Today I am on the island of Koh
Chang, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand not far from the
Cambodian border. Actually, it is the second largest island in
Thailand, but it is still pretty small. I'm staying in a bungalow next
to the beach, with a nice cool breeze blowing in off of the water. It's
about 7 PM and the temperature is about 80 degrees. This is much nicer
than Pattaya. I couldn't get out of that place fast enough! A few days
here will be just what the doctor ordered. A nice place to kick back
and do absolutely nothing. Why do something today when you can do it
tomorrow?? Pattaya was a very strange place. it was built up mainly on the sex industry during the Vietnam War days when Amreican serviemen went there for "r & r'. Most of the guys that go there are just there for the women - there really is not much else to see there. What really baffles me is why so many Russian and German tourists go there on holiday. The place is loaded with them. Why they would all go to Pattaya is a mystery to me. There are so many places in Thailand that are much nicer. Pattaya really is a dump. It's a depressing sort of place - nobody seems like they're happy there. Even the Thai people, who are usually so warm and friendly, seem like they could care less. Needless to say, I could care less too. No reason for me to go back to that dump. Strange place indeed........ Tomorrow I'll rent a motorbike and take a ride around the island, just to see what I can see. What I've seen so far is really nice. I think I'm going to like this place....... |
