Back to Bangkok

1/7/2009

Well, I've been here for 3 days and I'm lovin' it big time.  Arrived here on the 5th after a couple of delays and a missed connecting flight, but that's Ok because I'm here now. The weather is a very pleasant 82 degrees with sunny blue skies and a little bit of hazy humidity.

The trip here wasn't too bad, all things considered. Got an email Friday night from my airline saying that my flight was going to be delayed 2 hours - it sure was nice to find that out BEFORE I left for the airport! So, I got to the airport , checked in, got on the plane only to sit on the runway for another hour. Unfortunately, when I got to Hong Kong, my connecting flight to Bangkok hadn't been delayed and I missed that flight by about 20 minutes. That was the last flight of the evening. So, the airline (Cathay Pacific) gave me a great room in a really nice hotel, with a $30 voucher for dinner and another one for breakfast in the morning. That was nice, but I was supposed to meet my friend Naomi at her hotel in Bangkok at 10 AM. My flight wasn't leaving till 9 AM and was a 3 hour flight, which would put me in Bangkok a little after 11 AM - that's if everything went right! Well, fortunately, everything DID go right, putting me in Bangkok at 11:15, getting me to my hotel at 11:45, and I was having cocktails at the pool with Naomi at her hotel around 12:30. We spent the day walking around, seeing the sights and a little shopping. Around 8 PM, the jet lag hit me hard and I started fading fast. So, I headed back to my hotel, and Naomi headed to the airport to catch her flight back home to the UK.

I didn't plan on spending too much time here in Bangkok - was going to go right to Chiang Mai, but then I realized that there is absolutely NOTHING to do in Chiang Mai at 3 AM when you're wide awake with jetlag. Here in Bangkok, you can go to a restaurant, an internet cafe, a bar, 7-11. Much better place to adjust! I'll get to Chiang Mai in a few days - besides - schedules are for work - I'm on vacation!

I had been planning to go to Indonesia, but yesterday they had an earthquake there - the second one this week. The first one was a pretty big one. I don't know about the second one. Maybe I'll go to Laos instead.....

I don't know......
