The Burma Diaries - Part Four Inle Lake, Burma - 3/25/05 |
Arrived here today after a 40 minute plane ride from Bagan. This is a very beautiful place - so far removed from the craziness and chaos of Yangon - a place where life has gone on unchanged for a thousand years. While there are motorboats and electricity, people still live the simple life, living off the land and the lake. My hostess, Miss Cho from the guesthouse in Bagan arranged for me to stay at her friend's guesthouse, The Four Sisters Inn - a very nice place. When I arrived at the airport in Heho, Miss Yin Yin, one of the Four Sisters was there waiting for me. From there we went by taxi about 1 1/2 hours to Inle Lake. On the way, we stopped at a little roadside restaurant for another traditional Burmese lunch which of couse was great. Fried Tofu that tasted just like french fries and some kind of noodle soup that was excellent. Needless to say, I haven't lost any weight on this trip either! When we got to the guesthouse she had arranged for me to take a boatride around the lake, so I just dropped my bag off in my room and went for a ride around the lake that lasted the whole day. Very nice....... When I got back from the boat ride, I went to the dining room to have a drink. While I was there I met a couple of guys from Canada. While we were sitting there drinking and talking, some other people came in and before you know we had a whole table full of people just hanging out drinking, talking, and having a great ol' time. There were the two Canadians, a woman from Wales, a woman from Germany, a guy from Belgium and myself. While we were there they started bringing out plates of food till the whole table was full. Needless to say - I ate so much I had to drag myself back to my room - thought I was going to explode! You meet the most amazing people when you travel like this.... |
